PARIS, April 4 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron's approval rating fell to a new low in April as the "Yellow Vest" protesters continue to defy the government by staging demonstrations despite Macron's concessions.

According to an Elabe online survey conducted on April 2-3 and published on Thursday, 28 percent of those asked whether they trusted Macron to address the country's problems expressed confidence in his ability to fix the social and economic crisis.

This figure was 3 percentage points lower than a month earlier.

Only 5 percent of the 1,004 respondents said they fully approved the president's actions, down from 7 percent in March.

Back on the offensive to defuse public anger and the anti-government "Yellow Vest" protests, Macron has improved his approval rate over the last three months by 9 percentage points, according to the pollster, after he made successful appearances at townhall debates with local mayors and disenchanted voters in early January.

In a separate Elabe poll released on Wednesday, 79 percent of the respondents expressed pessimism about the outcome of President Macron's nationwide consultations. A month earlier, the respective figure was 70 percent.
