ADDIS ABABA, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopia Ministry of Peace (MoP) said on Tuesday it needs 700 million U.S. dollars to rehabilitate 2.7 million displaced people.

In a press statement, the ministry said the money is needed to rehabilitate the displaced in three phases, from repatriation to home areas to rehabilitating the formerly displaced in their home areas.

"Once the 700 million U.S. dollars is provided, the Ethiopia Ministry of Peace plans to repatriate 800,000 Ethiopians to their home areas in the first phase within a one-month period," the statement said.

The second and third phases will need six months and one year respectively, it said.

The Ethiopian government has already allocated 24.6 million dollars from domestic financial sources to rehabilitate the displaced.

Ethiopia was spared significant climate-related calamities last year, but spikes in conflict-induced displacements, which led to a near doubling of internally displaced population, contributed to high humanitarian response needs in 2019.
