DAR ES SALAAM, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The government of Tanzania announced on Wednesday that it planned to employ 44,807 public servants during the upcoming financial year.

George Mkuchika, the east African nation's Minister of State in the President's Office responsible for Public Service Management and Good Governance, told parliament in the capital Dodoma that a big part of the new employees will be teachers.

Mkuchika said the government planned to employ 13,526 teachers, 9,467 health workers, 3,725 police officers, 2,141 agriculture, livestock and fisheries officers, 500 fire officers and 685 prison wardens. More than 14,000 others in various government departments will also be employed.

The minister told the house that during the new financial year that starts on July 1, the government will promote 290,625 public servants and review accumulated salary arrears for 21,683 servants.

Tabling his portfolio's budget estimates for 2019/2020, Mkuchika mentioned a catalogue of other plans slated for implementation during the year.

He said during the forthcoming financial year his ministry will review assets declarations for 2,000 leaders in a continued process that required leaders to fill declaration forms showing their assets and debts.

Mkuchika said the government was working on plans for separation of powers and duties for 100 public institutions including government ministries and agencies with a view to making them more vibrant.
