AMMAN, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Tuesday said his country is committed to continuing supporting Jordan to overcome the consequences of the Syrian refugees crisis.

The Italian president made the remarks during a visit to the Zaatari camp for Syrian refugees on the start of his visit to the kingdom, during which he will hold talks with King Abdullah II, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

Mattarella voiced appreciation of Jordan's efforts to aid the refugees, while calling for increased international support to ease the pressure on Jordan.

Jordanian Minister of State for Investment Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh, who accompanied the Italian president, commended the strategic ties between the two countries.

The minister also highlighted the burden on Jordan in several arenas due to the influx of Syrian refugees.

The Italian president was briefed on the services offered to the refugees at the camp, one of the largest refugee camps for the Syrians fleeing the civil war back home.
