Sudan's security service supports right of peaceful demonstration, warns against chaos

KHARTOUM, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) on Wednesday voiced support for right of peaceful demonstration, and warned against chaos.

"The right of peaceful demonstration is guaranteed by the constitution," said the NISS in a statement.

It further warned against "attempts to drag the country towards chaos and security disorder."

The Sudanese capital on Saturday and Sunday saw huge protests that ended with open sit-ins before the Sudanese army general headquarters.

Since Dec. 19 last year, Sudan has been witnessing popular protests over the deteriorating economic conditions and price hikes of basic commodities.
