MADRID, April 16 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish airline Air Nostrum and the Spanish pilot union SEPLA on Tuesday announced they have reached an agreement to call off a strike which had threatened to disrupt the Easter holiday plans of up to 10,000 travelers.

SEPLA had called for a three-day strike from Monday to Wednesday, with a further three days threatened between April 22-24, over disagreements on Air Nostrum's outsourcing of contracts to third parties.

Air Nostrum confirmed the agreement was reached after a meeting which lasted over 17 hours and ended in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Forty-nine flights were canceled on Monday and 47 flights which were previously called off for Tuesday will remain cancelled, but Air Nostrum has said it is "working intensely" so the majority of flights scheduled for Wednesday can operate as scheduled.

"Air Nostrum is grateful for the understanding of its clients and apologizes for the difficulties they could have suffered as a consequence of this strike," said the airline.

Although the Air Nostrum strike has now been called off, travelers in Spain still face several problems over the coming days as they look to enjoy their Easter holidays.

Wednesday will see a 24-hour strike by staff of ADIF, the company which manages the tracks and stations of the Spanish railway network, while security workers at railway stations are expected to begin a series of two-hour stoppages on Thursday.

Ground staff at Spanish airports have also confirmed they will go on strike between April 21-24 over a failure to reach an agreement on their wages and working conditions.
