SAN FRANCISCO, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Salesforce, a leading global company in customer relations management (CRM) based in San Francisco, announced Wednesday an acquisition of a startup that provides location-based intelligence software and services.

Salesforce said it has signed a definitive agreement to buy the 10-year-old North Carolina startup MapAnything, which it called "a pioneer in location-based intelligence software built natively on the Salesforce Platform."

The world's leading CRM firm, which did not disclose the amount of the deal, said the acquisition of MapAnything will improve field sales and service by providing better location-based intelligence solutions.

"The addition of MapAnything to Salesforce will help the world's leading brands accurately plan: how many people they need, where to put them, how to make them as productive as possible, how to track what's being done in real time and what they can learn to improve going forward," Salesforce said.

Founded in 2009, MapAnything has maintained close cooperation with Salesforce and released its first applications on the Salesforce platform, including its major product MapAnything in 2012.

Media reports said the startup has raised 84 million U.S. dollars in its latest funding round.

MapAnything has been Salesforce's Systems Integrator Partner and Independent Software Vendor Premier Partner over the past nine-odd years.

John Stewart, MapAnything CEO and co-Founder, said his company is now powering over 1,900 customers ranging from small businesses to the largest global enterprises.
