DHAKA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Remittances from millions of non-resident Bangladesh is in July-April period of the current fiscal year 2018-19 ending next month totaled over 13 billion U.S. dollars, a central bank official said on Monday.
Quoting provisional Bangladesh Bank (BB) data, the official who asked not to be named told Xinhua that "Expatriate Bangladeshis remitted home 13,303.02 million U.S. dollars in July-April, nearly 7.78 percent lower than the same period a year ago."
The BB official said Bangladeshis in April remitted home 1.43 billion U.S. dollars, 7.72 percent higher from the same month a year earlier.
The inflow remittances, one of the key sources of foreign exchange for the nation, in the last 2017-2018 fiscal year (July 2017-June 2018) reached 14.98 billion U.S. dollars, 17.32 percent higher than the same period a year ago, the BB data showed.
Most of the remittances come from the Gulf countries, according to the bank.
