North Macedonia's number of marriages drops 2.1 pct in 2018

SKOPJE, May 17 (Xinhua) -- The number of marriages in North Macedonia in 2018 dropped by 2.1 percent compared to the previous year, according to a report published on Friday by the State Statistical Office (SSO).

The report showed that the number of marriages in 2018 amounted to 13,494 marriages.

During 2018, the majority of the marriages, 12.3 percent (1,665) were registered in August, whereas the fewest, 5.5 percent (738) in March.

Moreover, the majority of marriages in North Macedonia during 2018 was registered in the age group of 25-29, respectively 32.9 percent for women and 37 percent for men.

The average age at first marriage is 26.9 years for bride and 29.6 for groom, the data showed.

Meanwhile, the number of divorces in 2018 decreased by 18.8 percent compared to 2017 and it amounted to 1,620 divorces.

According to the SSO data, most divorces (322) were done from 5 to 9 years after marriage.
