MUMBAI, May 23 (Xinhua) -- India's largest auto manufacturer Tata Motors launched a compact truck in two variants at 7,675 U.S. dollars onwards, the company said.

The Intra truck has load body length of 2512 mm x 1602 mm and is powered by future ready engines, which are scalable to BS VI norms with cleaner vehicular emissions.

"The Tata Intra is a testament of our unrelenting commitment to introduce products that embody engineering passion and bolster customer value proposition and it will be a game changer for us in the SCV (small commercial vehicle) segment as it offers several industry-first features, setting high standards in the market," said Tata CEO and managing director Guenter Butschek.

Intra plugs the gap between the company existing range of its pick-ups - Ace and the Tata 207. The new vehicle will also compete with the Ashok Leyland's Dost, Piaggio's Porter and Mahindra Supro Maxitruck that are priced between 6,885-8,606 U.S. dollars, industry experts said.

"The launch of India's first compact truck fills an important gap in the Indian SCV market and we are bringing yet another game-changing product after our much successful product Tata ACE," said Girish Wagh, president of Tata's commercial vehicle business unit.

Sales of small commercial vehicles in India have seen a 31-percent dip in April at 39,516 over the preceding month of March amid indications of economic slowdown as per the data share by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.
