JAKARTA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Two supporters of Islamic State (IS) group were arrested by Indonesian police when they were engaging in riot on Wednesday, police said here on Thursday.

The unrest and clashes between protesters and police struck parts of Indonesia's capital on Tuesday's night and Wednesday's night after the electoral commission released the winner of presidential race.

The two men were members of "Gerakan Islamis Group (GARIS)" radical group, an affiliate of IS group, national police spokesman Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal said.

"They want to stage jihad (a holy war) during May 21 and 22 rallies," Iqbal said at the chief security ministry office.

The spokesman said that the GARIS group has stated its support to the IS group.

The group has also sent its members to join IS group activities in Syria.

Separately, Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan said on Thursday that the two-day riot has made eight dead with 737 others injured.

Defeated presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto said that the furious mass who engaged in the riots were not under his control, according to former chairman of Constitutional Court Mahfud MD.

Previously, the police has said that militants have plotted bombing strikes during rally opposing the presidential poll result, imposing terror alert status in the capital from May 21 to 25.
