NAIROBI, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Pan-African housing financier, Shelter Afrique, on Friday urged African governments to prioritize investments in affordable housing.

Andrew Chimphondah, chief executive officer of Shelter Afrique, said that the continent is facing a rapid urbanization rate which is increasing the demand for housing units.

"The matter of affordable housing is personal to us all; decent and affordable housing is a human right and we must see it as that," Chimphondah said on the sidelines of the 2019 UN Habitat Assembly which ends in Nairobi on Friday.

Shelter Afrique is owned by 44 African governments, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Africa Reinsurance Company.

Chimphondah added that Shelter Afrique was keen on inviting new member countries to join as shareholders and current target countries include Egypt, Angola, Ethiopia and Mozambique.
