WASHINGTON, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Multiple people were injured in a shooting on Friday afternoon at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center in Virginia, eastern United States, the authorities said.
Virginia Beach police said they it is believed there's only one shooter, and the suspect has been taken into custody.
At 4:50 p.m., the Virginia Beach Police Department tweeted that one shooter has been taken into custody and multiple people were injured, without saying how many.
Master Police Officer Allen Perry said the shooting occurred in Building 2 which is next door to City Hall and near both the Virginia Police Department headquarters and the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office.
"We are asking everyone in the Municipal Center to shelter in place," he said.
An employee who works in the building told local media WAVY that he and several other people were able to safely leave the building after reports of an active shooter. He said he found a woman inside a stairwell covered in blood.
