RABAT, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The two-day visit of British Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox to Morocco focused on trade and economic relations with the North African country after the Brexit.
Joined by Emma Wade-Smith, British Trade Commissioner for Africa, Fox met on Friday with Moroccan Minister of Industry, Trade and New Technologies Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Agriculture Aziz Akhannouch and Secretary of State to Foreign Affairs Mounia Boucetta.
"Britain is undergoing a mutation with the Brexit, but in any case, it needs to strengthen its relations with a number of friendly countries like Morocco," Elalamy told the press after the meeting.
"The relations between Morocco and the United Kingdom are very good and long-standing. Today we are lucky to have very good economic and political relations," he added.
During the meetings, the two sides discussed Morocco's position toward Europe and Africa and the opportunities for both Moroccan and British businessmen.
For his part, Fox said the talks touched on how the two countries could cooperate at the economic and business levels.
"We are more advanced in the services sector and have a lot of skills that could be useful here," said Fox.
Britain "wants to invest in Morocco's future in terms of workforce and capacity to generate services that will facilitate export to the African continent," he added.
On Thursday, Fox met with Abdellatif Loudiyi, Moroccan Minister-Delegate for National Defense.
"The United Kingdom and Morocco have a mutual interest in delivering security and stability in North Africa. It means there is huge potential for defence and security exports, and for British capability to play a full part," the British Embassy in Morocco said in a tweet after the meeting.
