TIRANA, June 4 (Xinhua) -- The Albanian Ministry of Defense will provide support to the families affected by the earthquakes that hit the southeastern rural part of Albania this past weekend, Defense Minister Olta Xhacka was quoted by local media as saying on Tuesday.
Xhacka made the comments during her visit to the village of Floq in the region of Korca, whose residents were affected by the quake.
Xhacka said the ministry is working to provide food, medicine and shelter to the affected residents.
"We will provide assistance in rebuilding the damaged houses and every resident affected by the earthquake will receive a compensation," Xhacka said.
According to the Albanian Institute of GeoSciences, Energy, Water and Environment, about 100 seismic tremors have been registered in the Korca region.
This weekend's six earthquakes, the first with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale, damaged 184 houses in 3 villages, 95 of them heavily. The quakes also left 4 people injured.
The affected residents have been temporarily sheltered in tents and social centers, or moved to their close relatives. The authorities have pledged to help with the reconstructions.
