KIEV, June 6 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian parliament has passed a bill introducing impeachment procedures for the president on Thursday, according to the parliament's official website.
Backed by 279 parliament members (MPs), the bill details the legal norms of a specialized commission that would have the authority to impeach the president.
The bill provides the legal ground to form a special temporary investigation commission whose task is to investigate possible state treason or other crimes committed by the president of Ukraine.
A commission would be formed if at least 226 MPs submit an impeachment initiation, and the commission has to deliver the conclusions and proposals on initiating impeachment to parliament.
The bill has yet to be signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and would come into force the next day.
