WINDHOEK, June 6 (Xinhua) -- The Namibian government on Thursday received physical facilities and furniture at John Alphons Pandeni Combined School in Omusati region from the local Chinese business community.

The local Chinese people donated furniture, building materials, and commodities worth some 150,000 Namibian dollars (about 10,000 U.S. dollars) towards the development of the facilities of the combined School. The Chinese Embassy in Namibia facilitated funding towards the project.

Yang Jun, political counselor at the embassy, said the investment by the Chinese community aims to advance the provision of education in Namibia and address challenges to empower learners.

Sophia Ashipala, acting director of Education in the Omusati region, said that the donation addresses the backlog in infrastructure and classrooms at schools in Namibia.

"The Ministry faces a challenge of a lack of infrastructure and teaching equipment, and, hence, the donation from local Chinese community comes at the right time in meeting the demand," she said.

Yang added that the donation to John Alphons Pandeni Combined School is a symbol of the people-to-people friendship between the two countries.
