CAIRO, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's annual urban consumer price inflation increased to 14.1 percent in May from 13 percent in April, the country's official statistics agency said on Monday.

"The annual inflation rose to 13.2 percent in May year on year from 11.2 percent in the same month in 2018," the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) added.

The CAPMAS report attributed the increase in inflation rates to the hiking prices of fruits by 18.1 percent, beef by 3.6 percent and medical equipment by 5.5 percent.

Egypt has been implementing an International Monetary Fund-backed economic reform program since 2016 which saw unprecedented high inflation of 33 percent in 2017.
