Myanmar seizes heroin, stimulants in northernmost state

YANGON, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have seized heroin and stimulants worth of a total of 130 million kyats (86,600 U.S. dollars) in Kachin state, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Monday.

The seizure was made by the anti-drug force at a toll gate on Lwejie-Mankaung road on Sunday afternoon when a truck heading from Namhkam to Lwejie was intercepted and 1.22 kg of heroin and 5,700 tablets of stimulants were found hidden in soap boxes.

Investigation is being made into the case by Lwejie police station to charge the offenders under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Meanwhile, Myanmar authorities also seized heroin and stimulants worth over 178.8 million kyats (119,240 U.S. dollars) in the same state on June 2 from a motorbike rider's bag when the motorbike was intercepted on Bhamo-Mandalay road.
