Insider attack kills police commander in N. Afghanistan

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, June 23 (Xinhua) -- A senior police officer was killed in a suspected insider attack in Kunduz province, north of Afghanistan on Sunday morning, said a police spokesman in the province.

"The insider attack took place within the compound of police head quarters at 10:00 a.m. local time in provincial capital Kunduz city, when a police personnel opened fire, killing his superior officer on the spot," Sayed Sarwar Hussaini told Xinhua.

The suspect managed to escape from the scene, Hussaini said, adding that investigations are underway.
