FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, June 24 (Xinhua) -- A senior army officer was killed after a landmine hit his vehicle in Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan on Monday, provincial governor spokesman Nik Mohammad Nazari said.
"The deadly incident happened at about 10:00 a.m. local time Monday when the vehicle of Sayed Mohammad, Commander of the Army Reserve Unit run over a landmine placed by the Taliban militants, in Argo district killing him on the spot," Nazari told Xinhua.
One of his guards was wounded in the blast, the official added.
Taliban militants fighting security forces in the area have not commented on the incident.
