NEW DELHI, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in Saturday's wall collapse incident in India's southwestern state of Maharashtra has risen to 15, a senior official confirmed to Xinhua over phone.

Among the dead are four kids, two females and nine males and their identities are yet to be established.

The mishap occurred near the Talab Masjid in Pune's Kondhwa area. The wall collapsed on to the adjacent tin huts in the area, and most of the dead are laborers, said Fire Station Officer Prakash Gore from the site of the incident.

According to him, there were a total of 18 people sleeping inside around eight tin huts when the wall suddenly collapsed on them at around 2:00 a.m.

"Fifteen dead bodies have been recovered...Those rescued alive but injured have been admitted in a local hospital," he told Xinhua, adding that relief and rescue work was still going on.

Incessant rains over the past 24 hours in the city was said to be the cause of the wall collapse. Further details are awaited.
