Large haul of drugs bust in Myanmar in single day

YANGON, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have seized a large haul of narcotic drugs in Mandalay region and Shan state in a single day, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) Saturday.

According to the committee’s release, a total of 60,000 stimulant tablets worth 180 million kyats (120,000 U.S. dollars) were seized from a motorbike which was intercepted in Mogok township, Mandalay, on Friday.

On the same day, 6,768 liters of controlled chemicals, Sulphuric acid worth over 101.5 million kyats (67,680 U.S. dollars), were confiscated from a car in Theinni township of Shan state while 4,800 stimulant tablets worth 4.8 million kyats (3,200 U.S. dollars) from a motorbike in Hopong township, respectively.

Meanwhile, the authorities seized 306 gram of heroin worth 7.65 million kyats (5,100 U.S. dollars) and 4,091 stimulant tablets worth 4.09 million kyats (2,727 U.S. dollars) from two houses in Loileng township, Shan state.

The suspects in connection with the cases were charged under the country’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
