WINDHOEK, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's Football Association on Tuesday called up 30 women players for a training camp ahead of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Women's Championship set to take place later this month.

The COSAFA Women's Championship will be hosted in South Africa from July 31-August 11.

At a media brief in Windhoek Tuesday, retired former Namibia women's football captain Mamie Kasaona was appointed as the new head coach, while Robert Nauseb was appointed as assistant.

Kasaona takes over from Brian Isaacks who had to step down, following COSAFA's request to have all women national team head coaches be female.

"I am well prepared because getting this opportunity to coach a tournament of such magnitude has always been a dream. As a former player, I know what is expected of me and I am confident I will be able to not only coach but also advice accordingly," Kasaona said.

At the event, Zenatha Coleman was named the captain and will receive assistance from Ndapewa Katuta.

Meanwhile, the draw for the COSAFA Women's Championship is expected to take place Wednesday.
