Tokyo stocks open higher after Fed chief's hint at rate cut

TOKYO, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened marginally higher Thursday, following gains on Wall Street overnight, after hints made by U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell about a rate cut later this month.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 22.33 points, or 0.10 percent, from Wednesday to 21,555.81.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange , meanwhile, added 3.07 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,574.39.

Miscellaneous product, oil and coal product, and farm and fishery-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after thee morning bell.
