KATHMANDU, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed while seven went missing due to landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in different parts of Nepal during the past two days, government officials said Friday.
The capital Kathmandu and various parts have seen an increase in monsoon activity resulting in heavy rainfall, the country's Meteorological Forecasting Division under Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said.
At least 500 houses have been damaged due to the landslide-related incidents in the past two days, according to government officials.
The country's major highways including the East-West Highway have been blocked due to the flood-related incidents, local media reported on Tuesday.
The monsoon activity is expected to continue for the next three days across Nepal, officials said.
