9 killed in bus-truck collision in Upper Egypt

CAIRO, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Nine people were killed and 11 others injured on Monday when a microbus collided with a truck on Qena-Sohag highway in Upper Egypt, official MENA news agency reported.

Ambulances were sent to the scene to take the injured and bodies to the hospital, MENA said.

Investigations were launched to determine the cause of the collision, it added.

Last week, 12 people were killed when two trucks collided in Giza Province west of the capital Cairo.

Traffic accidents in Egypt killed 3,747 and wounded 14,000 in 2018, according to a recent report of Egypt's statistics authority.

Another report of the World Health Organization said the accidents in Egypt caused an estimated losses of 30 billion Egyptian pounds (1.8 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018.
