LUSAKA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Six people have died on the spot while 21 others sustained serious injuries when a vehicle they were traveling in was involved in an accident in Zambia's Kitwe city on the Copperbelt Province, the police said on Tuesday.
Esther Mwaata-Katongo, police spokesperson said the accident happened on Monday night when the driver of a minibus lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed which later fell into a stream.
She said the injured were rushed to a local hospital but could not state how many people were in the minibus.
Accidents are common on Zambian roads involving public buses.
Last year, 30,652 road traffic accidents were recorded on the country's roads compared to 30,163 the previous year.
