CAIRO, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday voiced full confidence in the ability of the Algerian institutions and people to deal with the current challenges without any external interference.

Sisi's remarks came during his meeting in Cairo with Algerian interim President Abdelkader Bensalah who is visiting Egypt on his first external trip.

In April, the Algerian parliament appointed Bensalah as the country's interim president, a week after former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika resigned following mass protests that erupted across the country.

During the meeting, Sisi hailed the distinguished levels that bilateral relations have reached, stressing Egypt's keenness on pushing forward bilateral cooperation in various fields, Sisi's spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.

Sisi also lauded the performance of the Algerian national team throughout the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The AFCON final will be held Friday at the Cairo International Stadium between Algeria and Senegal.

For his part, the Algerian interim president reviewed the latest developments in his country, stressing that everything is moving ahead on the right track in accordance with the constitutional path.

The two leaders also discussed the latest developments of regional issues and other files related to the African Union, with Bensalah lauding the effective Egyptian leadership of the current joint African action.

The Algerian president also congratulated his Egyptian counterpart on the impressive success of Egypt's hosting and organizing of the AFCON.

Bensalah arrived earlier in the day to support his country's team against Senegal in the AFCON final.
