GABORONE, July 22 (Xinhua) -- As Botswana intensifies efforts to prop up the country's health sector, government has announced plans to visit Italy and Poland to cement relationships with potential pharmaceutical players and seal investment opportunities.

Morrison Sinvula, Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Health and Wellness on Monday in the capital Gaborone said the country's minister of health is this week billed to travel to Italy to negotiate the terms of cooperation between the country and GK Investment Holding Group in Italy.

GK Investment Holding Group is a leading investment and consultancy firm which has facilitated establishment of several partnerships and cross border transactions between Middle East, Europe and Africa.

"While in Italy the minister will visit medical facilities, training and educational platforms to benchmark on best practices," said Sinvula.

Sinvula said the minister will then proceed to Poland from 26th to 27th July 2019 where he will visit the Medinet Heart Centre to explore a proposal for establishing a regional Centre for Heart Diseases in Botswana.

"This comes as the centre has previously announced intentions to establish a Sub Saharan Centre for Heart Diseases in Botswana," said Sinvula.

Sinvula said the partnership is in-line with the national aspirations and the ministry's strategy to position Botswana as a world class medical tourism destination.
