WARSAW, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Poland is hoping to get an economy-related portfolio in the newly formed European Commission, a minister said here in Warsaw on Tuesday.

"We're aiming for an economic portfolio, because these are the most important in the Commission," Polish Minister of Investment and Economic Development Jerzy Kwiecinski told Polish media on Tuesday.

On Thursday, President-elect of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is scheduled to arrive in Warsaw and hold talks with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Poland's candidates for a Commission post will be on the agenda.

Polish daily Rzeczpospolita reported on Tuesday that seven people are being considered by Poland to be proposed as potential Commissioner: Kwiecinski himself, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology Jadwiga Emilewicz, chief of the Polish President's cabinet Krzysztof Szczerski, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Konrad Szymanski, and three euro-parliamentarians -- Adam Bielan, Jacek Sariusz-Wolski and Ryszard Czarnecki.

The decision will be made over the following days by Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski together with Polish President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Morawiecki.

Poland has so far failed to secure any key EU leadership position and two high profile PiS euro-parliamentarians have been snubbed for European Parliament roles they ran for. At the same time, Poland has successfully pushed for von der Leyen for the Commission President post, opposing the candidacy of Frank Timmermans, who has been very critical of justice reforms in Poland in the past.

Securing a certain portfolio in the Commission depends on the new Commission president's views, the profile of the candidate proposed by the respective country and that country's political weight in Brussels.
