SYDNEY, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The Queensland Police Service (QPS) in Australia will now make body-worn cameras a requirement for it's front line officers, the state government announced on Friday.

This will mean every uniformed police officer in the state will now have all their interactions with the public recorded at all times.

Likening it to the "modern equivalent of the police notebook," Queensland Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services Mark Ryan said, "body-worn cameras have proven to be beneficial for police officers as they allow officers to improve their response in relation to threats against community safety."

"This increases transparency of QPS responses and ensures consistency in digital evidence handling procedures," he said.

With 7,700 industry-leading, built-for-purpose high definition cameras to be rolled out in the coming weeks, Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said the wearable technology is a vital policing tool that can provide an impartial record of events and interactions.

"It's a win-win. More cameras and better technology to deliver significant benefits to police and the community," she said.

"The clarity of real time footage can not only facilitate a quicker resolution to criminal investigations but also provides police officers and the public with confidence that evidence is being recorded without prejudice."
