SKOPJE, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The police officers of North Macedonia's Ministry of Interior will undergo a vetting process, the country's Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski declared on Wednesday.
The minister made this declaration while attending an activity in Karposh, one of the 10 municipalities in the capital city of Skopje.
Spasovski told reporters that North Macedonia's government gave the green light to the vetting process of the police staff of the Interior Ministry on Tuesday.
According to Spasovski, by Aug. 20 the Interior Ministry will set up a working group which will prepare a draft plan on measures, activities and dynamics of the implementation of the vetting process, to submit it to the government by Oct. 1.
The vetting of the police staff will be based on personal integrity, professional capacity and verification of their assets," Spasovski said.
Spasovski underlined that this process will give an impetus to other institutions in order to increase the capacities and integrity of the people and work in institutions in the interests of the citizens.
"I expect the vetting process to be successful and meet the expectations of the citizens," he added.
Spasovski also pointed out that the ministry will eliminate the shortcomings in line with the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) recommendations.
GRECO is the Council of Europe's anti-corruption monitoring body established in 1999.
