MOGADISHU, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- A suspected suicide car bomb hit Somali government forces at the recently-captured town of Awdheegle in southeastern region on Wednesday, police and witnesses said.
The police said the explosion went off when a suicide bomber detonated his car laden with explosives in Awdheegle town which was recently captured by the Somali National Army in Lower Shabelle region.
Casualties are yet to be known.
The al-Shabab militant group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
Witnesses said there is heavy exchange of gunfire between the al-Shabab militants and government forces.
