YANGON, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Nine members of the United League of Arakan (ULA) or Arakan Army (AA) have been brought to trial for providing support to the group engaged in acts threatening the rule of law in Rakhine state, according to the Myanmar Police Force Friday.

They were being charged with violating the Counter-Terrorism Law for establishing the group.

Deported by Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs on July 10 for organizing an anniversary event for the ULA/AA on April 7 without acquiring permission from relevant authorities, Aung Myat Kyaw, former leader of the Singapore-based ULA/AA group was arrested by the Myanmar Police Force on July 12 for interrogation.

Aung Myat Kyaw, who joined the group a year after it was established together with other three people, was charged with collecting fund for the group's headquarters and delivering materials to AA supporters in Mrauk U, Kyauktaw, Ponnagyun and Minbya townships in Rakhine state.

The group also persuaded and recruited people to join ULA/AA and sent them to the AA Headquarters in Laiza.

With Aung Myat Kyaw and eight other suspects being sued at the Yangon Western District Court, the police are continuing investigation to expose other conspirators.

ULA/AA is a non-ceasefire signatory to the government's Nationwide Cease fire Accord (NCA).
