Taliban key commander killed in Afghanistan's eastern Logar province

PUL-E-ALAM, Afghanistan, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A Taliban key commander and in-charge of military operations in the eastern Logar province, Mawlawi Qudratullah, has been killed, said an army statement released here Friday.

"The notorious Taliban commander Mawlawi Qudratullah, the in-charge of military operation of the militant group in Logar, was killed during the operations of the units of Special Forces launched in Padkhab district in the outskirt of provincial capital Pul-e-Alam yesterday," the statement said.

Describing the killed commander as a brutal insurgent, the statement added that Qudratullah was involved in organizing terrorist attacks in the restive Logar province and his physical elimination could prove a major setback to the militants.

Taliban militants haven't commented.
