KIEV, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- One child and one Australian woman were among the identified victims of a hotel fire that happened in the southern Ukrainian city of Odessa on Saturday morning, Interfax Ukraine news agency reported on Monday.

Only five people have been identified so far, including an Australian citizen and a child, said Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov at a meeting in the city hall on Monday.

A fire broke out in the Tokyo Star hotel in the port city early Saturday, resulting in nine deaths and 10 people injured.

Police opened a criminal investigation into possible violations of fire safety requirements at the hotel. The owner of the hotel has been detained.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Facebook that he will personally oversee that those responsible are punished by law.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman ordered a large-scale inspection of recreational venues, especially hotels and resorts, across the country following the incident.

Odessa is a Black Sea port 475 km south of Ukraine's capital. The seaside resort attracts thousands of tourists in summer every year.
