MAPUTO, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Mozambique's President Filipe Nyusi will pay an official visit to Russia, which will be the first by a Mozambican head of state since 1991.
The visit will be from Tuesday to Friday at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, said the President's Office on Monday.
"The visit to Russia is part of the consolidation and deepening of the friendship and cooperation relations between the two countries in the bilateral and international fields and is an opportunity for the definition of strategies aimed at strengthening political, economic and business relations," read a press statement from the President's Office.
During his stay in Russia, Nyusi will hold talks with Putin, hold a meeting with the Mozambican community residing in that country, open the Mozambique-Russia business forum, as well as visit enterprises of economic and social interest.
"This is a historic visit, as it is the first that a Mozambican head of state has made to the Russian Federation since the dissolution of the former Soviet Union (USSR) in 1991, and the last visit to Moscow by the former President of the Republic, Joaquim Chissano," added the statement.
Nyusi will be accompanied by his wife Isaura Nyusi, Minister of National Defense Atanasio M'tumuke and Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Max Tonela.
