E. Africa teams warm up for Schools Gymnasiade Games in China

NAIROBI, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Winning teams from the East Africa schools competition will qualify for the International Schools Gymnasiade Games to be held in Jinjiang, China's Fujian province next year.

David Ngugi, secretary general of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA), said China will sponsor about 80 percent of the teams, after a meeting in Nairobi with officials from China as well as the Federation of World Schools Games Associations.

"It is the biggest opportunity offered to young sportsmen. It will offer our boys and girls develop their talent," said Ngugi.

"We also want to thank China for the offer to provide a platform for our next generation of stars to showcase their talent, gain exposure and attain their potential in sports."

Only students aged from 13 to 18 are eligible for the Gymnasiade Games which features 12 sports of archery, athletics, boxing, chess, fencing, gymnastics, judo, karate, swimming, taekwondo, tennis and wrestling.
