NEW DELHI, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- India's north-eastern state of Assam will appoint a third party agency to study the problems of the tea industry, state-run broadcaster All India Radio reported on Thursday.

"The third-party agency would find out the reasons behind why Assam tea is not able to compete in the international market," the media quoted the Assam Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary as saying.

He said that the proposed agency could be a management institute or any other top agency. He also said that the industry had to move away from Crush-Tear-Curl (CTC) style tea and venture into teas like green and yellow tea.

Patowary added that the Assam Government will also set up a sub-committee to look into various problems of the tea industry.

Assam is described as one of the highest and quality tea producing states in the country.
