MADRID, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Spain's former king Juan Carlos I will undergo a heart operation on Saturday, the Spanish Royal Household confirmed on Thursday.
The operation for the 81-year old was programmed after he underwent his annual check-up on July 11 and 12, although he has carried out a normal life since then.
Although no further details have been given about the operation, it will take place in the Quiron de Pozuelo de Alarcon clinic, just outside of the Spanish capital city of Madrid.
The operation will be the 16th surgical procedure Juan Carlos, who abdicated in favor of his son Felipe VI in 2014, has undergone in his life, with the most of his operations being a hip-replacement after he fractured his pelvis during a controversial hunting trip to Botswana.
