MADRID, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A search is currently being carried out for the two crew members aboard a fighter which crashed into the Mediterranean Sea on Monday morning, regional authorities confirmed.
Local reports said the jet belonging to the Spanish Air Force crashed into the sea around 100 meters from the coast near a popular holiday resort known as La Manga, in the southeast of Spain. The accident happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. local time (0730 GMT).
The CASA C-101 aircraft belongs to the acrobatics squadron under the Spanish Air Force and was reported to be on a training flight when the accident happened.
The Spanish regional government has confirmed the crash in a tweet, adding that "rescue vessels have been mobilized to look for the crew." The reasons for the crash are still unknown.
