NEW DELHI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- India's apex court, the Supreme Court, on Monday refused to entertain former finance minister P.Chidambaram's plea challenging the dismissal of his anticipatory bail in a corruption case.

The apex court said his petition had become "infructuous" as he had already been arrested by the country's investigating agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), for interrogation.

Chidambaram, whose CBI custody is ending on Monday, will be produced before a trial court where the agency can seek his custody.

Chidambaram was last week sent to five-day custody of CBI for interrogation.

Chidambaram, who was also India's home minister (internal security), is being probed for allegedly helping INX Media get illegal Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearances for funds amounting to 305 crore Indian Rupees (around 44 million U.S. dollars) when he was finance minister in the 2000s.

INX Media is alleged to have got the permission to source foreign investments to the tune of 4.62 crore Indian Rupees (660,000 U.S. dollars) only, but it allegedly received funds worth 305 crore Indian Rupees (around 44 million U.S. dollars).
