India to hold community radio conference

NEW DELHI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Indian government's "seventh community radio sammelan (conference)" will be held in the national capital from Aug. 27-29, an official statement by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said on Monday.

The conference will witness the participation of all operational community radio stations across the country.

The theme of this year's conference is "Community Radio for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)."

The representatives of the community radio stations will discuss experiences and possibilities of programming for better public awareness on the SDGs.

According to the statement, the government's various flagship schemes like the "Jal Shakti Abhiyaan" (Campaign for Water) and the efforts for "Disaster Risk Reduction" would also be discussed at the Conference.

Research, production, broadcasting, dissemination of social welfare messages through social media and content management for community radio stations will also be discussed, it said.
