WINDHOEK, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Namibia deported over a hundred illegal immigrants during the first two weeks of the "Kalahari Desert" crime prevention operation, the Namibian Police said Wednesday.
The illegal immigrants were arrested and deported from the town of Katima Mulilo where Namibia borders with Zambia.
Speaking at a media briefing, the Zambezi regional police commissioner Karel Theron said the illegal immigrants were arrested during daily patrol.
"I would like to request the public from any act of lawlessness undermining authority and obstructing police officers in the execution of their duties and lack of cooperation," said Theron.
The illegal immigrants were mostly employed as farm workers while others were engaged in illegal activities such as drug smuggling.
Operation "Kalahari Desert" is a crime prevention program that involves street patrols from the police and the Namibia Defence Forces.
Another 35 Namibians were also arrested for various crimes.
