MINSK, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Wednesday called on Turkey to boost bilateral trade and economic relations.

Speaking to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Lukashenko highlighted the friendly nature of the relationship between the two countries, calling for a further upgrade in their trade and economic ties.

"Countries such as Turkey and Belarus, which have enormous potential in their development, can have many times more goods turnover than what they have now," the president said.

Lukashenko also urged the intergovernmental commission and the embassies of the two countries to draw up a reliable action plan on increasing bilateral trade.

Cavusoglu said his visit is aimed at developing joint actions with the Belarusian Foreign Ministry to achieve the goals previously set by the two presidents.

In 2018, the Belarus-Turkey trade volume reached 984 million U.S. dollars, with imports amounting to 801 million dollars and exports, 183 million dollars. In the first half of 2019, the bilateral trade volume registered 418 million dollars.
