DHAKA, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Blood banks and donation centres in Bangladesh capital Dhaka and elsewhere in the country are now struggling in supplying blood components required to treat dengue patients.

Hundreds of people are seen Wednesday lining up outside a blood bank of Dhaka's one of the largest Suhrawardy hospitals now packed with dengue patients.

Bangladesh has seen a huge surge in dengue outbreaks across the country since July.

The situation of dengue has deteriorated in Bangladesh as the mosquito-borne viral disease spread out in most parts of the country in less than a month.

A total of 1,157 fresh cases of dengue were reported in the country in the last 24 hours as of 8:00 am local time Wednesday.

The total number of confirmed cases as of Wednesday in the country since Jan. 1 rose to 67,221, registering a record high.

In its dengue monitoring report released on Wednesday, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health said after reviewing 88 deaths the government's Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed 52 dengue deaths so far.
