BRUSSELS, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, told Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom over the phone on Wednesday that a no-deal Brexit will be the latter's decision.

Juncker said the EU stands firm with Ireland, an EU member state, an implicit jab at Johnson's position to revoke the "backstop" at Irish border, according to a readout published by Juncker's spokesperson on Twitter.

Juncker said he would look at proposals from Johnson that are compatible with the existing Withdrawal Agreement, negotiated by Johnson's predecessor Theresa May, implying a rejection of Johnson's demand to reopen the agreement.

The EU is ready for a no-deal Brexit though it tries to avoid one, Juncker said, adding that the decision for a disorderly withdrawal will be Johnson's.
