TUNIS, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Slim Khalbous inaugurated on Monday the Tunisian-Chinese University Cooperation Forum and the second edition of the China Campus in Tunis.

The two-day event, held at the Tunis Science City, was attended by Deputy Secretary General of the China Scholarship Council Wang Shenggang, Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia Wang Wenbin as well as representatives of 30 Chinese universities and 13 Tunisians.

"This forum aims to strengthen cooperation between China and Tunisia in the academic field," scholarship council official Wang told Xinhua.

According to him, this forum, as well as the China Campus, will provide Tunisian students with opportunities to continue their studies at Chinese universities.

"The presence of this number of Chinese universities' representatives in Tunisia proves the interest in this country which is distinguished by qualified academic skills," Ambassador Wang said.

"In 2019, 40 Tunisian students have already benefited from study grants awarded by the Chinese government to access Chinese universities," he added.

For his part, Slim Khalbous said that the dynamic of Tunisian-Chinese cooperation, especially in recent years, is inspired by a close and solid cooperation between the two countries.

"Chinese universities are increasingly showing an openness to the whole world, more specifically to Africa, and Tunisia could acts as a bridge between China and these countries in the field of scientific research," said the Tunisian minister.
