LONDON, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- UK counter-terrorism police have been granted on Monday a warrant to continue questioning a 21-year-old man arrested in North London on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
Counter Terrorism Policing North East were granted an extension by a law court on Monday morning, giving detectives until Saturday Sept. 7, 2019 to hold and question the arrested man.
Police in Cleveland in north east England said the man from Middlesborough was arrested on Saturday in the British capital.
Three addresses in Teesside in northern England and a further address in London have been searched as part of the operation.
Cleveland Police said it is continuing to work closely with local communities to reassure local people and protect the public.
Local media in Middlesborough reported that two properties in central Middlesborough were combed by police, while officers are still on the scene at a third in nearby Teesville, where the house is cordoned off.
Counter terrorism police called in bomb disposal experts at the weekend after "potentially suspicious items" were found at the address on Saturday night, but police did not have to evacuate any nearby houses.
Chief Superintendent Dave Sutherland from Cleveland Police said: "The activity is intelligence-led and pre-planned and we are working closely with our colleagues from Counter Terrorism Policing North East.
"Our aim is to keep people as updated and informed as we are able to, given the sensitive nature of this investigation. We appreciate the public's patience and understanding while we carry out this work," he added.
